The Olympic Games kick off in Paris next week and many kids will be looking up to all the amazing athletes who come across the screen. One sport in particular, gymnastics, has a profound impact on child development.

Parker Wilson from The Little Gym of Ardmore joined PHL17 with the “Fab Four” movements that can help your child.

“We are a premiere gymnastics center focusing on ages four months to 12 years old. We focus on the three dimensions of learning… get moving, brain boost and citizen kid,” said Parker.

    The “Fab Four” movements include:

    1. Forward Roll : Also known as a somersault, this movement stimulates the child’s vestibular system, improving their sense of balance, spatial awareness and coordination.
    2. Handstand: From the “Donkey Kick” to the “real Deal Handstand,” these variations develop upper-body and core strength while refining balance, coordination and body control.
    3. Balance Beam : As children navigate the beam, they enhance their balance, body control, and locomotor skills through various ways of moving across a balance beam, such as walking, running, jumping, and more.
    4. Bar Swing & Hang: Swinging and hanging activities, whether on gymnastic bars or playground equipment, strengthen upper body and grip muscles, promoting overall physical development.

“We use a lot of directive music at The Little Gym so the kids can learn how to follow along to directions, listening skills, waiting in line…”
