STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Islanders should expect at least one more bout of extreme heat this summer, according to AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tyler Roys. “This is the prime time for a heat wave to occur,” Roys said. “The average temperature expected, or the historical average that’s expected for a high for this time of year is 85 and that runs from just after July 4 all the way through into early August. So, the chance for 90 degrees — this is it.”

A voluntary recall has been expanded due to the potential health threat it poses in New York State. Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, is expanding its July 12, 2024, recall. Domestic violence shelters and service providers across New York State now have access to free Overdose Emergency Kits. This initiative is a partnership between the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). The kits are provided through Project COPE (Community Overdose Prevention Education), funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
