The South Dakota high school state individual wrestling tournament came to a close Saturday, and the Sturgis Brown boys wrestling team, Canton boys and Pierre girls each walked away with a team state championship.
Sturgis Brown won the Class A state championship with 197.5 points, knocking off the three-time consecutive champions Brandon Valley, who finished fifth this year.
West Central jumped the Lynx to finish in fourth place with 127 points. Tea Area finished just outside the top five while Sioux Falls Lincoln, Harrisburg, Sioux Falls Jefferson and O’Gorman all finished in the top 15.
Canton’s boy wrestling continued their run of dominance in Class B, winning their seventh consecutive state title with 170.5 points.
Philip/Kadoka/Wall finished second in Class B, 19 points behind the C-Hawks.
The Pierre girls held on to complete their own 3-peat, edging out Canton by .5 points.
The Harrisburg girls team finished in third place with 102.5 points. The Brandon Valley girls jumped one spot to finish the tournament in ninth place.
