Sioux Falls full marathon cancelled this weekend, 5K and half marathon still scheduled

Due to expected high temperatures and humidity on Sunday, the 2024 Sioux Falls Full Marathon is cancelled, a statement from the organization announced to registered runners Friday morning.

The half marathon and the 5K scheduled that morning will still happen.

According to the National Weather Service, the high on Sunday is expected to be 92 degrees, with the heat index expected to be between 98 and 106 degrees. The temperature at 7 a.m. is expected to be about 70 degrees.

Options for full marathon participants are to transfer their registration to the half marathon or to the 5K race or to defer registrations to 2025.

On Sunday morning, the half marathon will begin at 7 a.m. at Howard Wood Field. The 5K race will begin at 10:15 a.m. Both races conclude at Howard Wood Field. Learn more at the Sioux Falls Marathon website.
