Sioux Falls will be host to the American Jump Rope Federation’s National Championship event next year.

Members of the federation (AMJRF) recently announced that Augustana University will welcome more than 300 jumpers from June 28 to July 3. The event intends to draw thousands of guests, who will come to watch a sport that is under consideration for the Olympic Games in 2028.

There are more than a dozen events during a jump rope competition, including freestyle, single speed, Double Dutch or Double Dutch freestyle. The AMJRF National Championship will have a two-round structure: Preliminary rounds and finals.

The U.S. national jump roping team will host qualifiers in February 2025 in North Carolina.

    Adventure gyms in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls has bred many professional athletes, including most recently two performers who just competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer. Track athlete and University of South Dakota alum Chris Nilsen competed for Team USA in Men’s Pole Vaulting, and Sioux Falls native Taryn Cloth competed with her partner, Kristen Nuss, in Women’s Beach Volleyball, going undefeated in pool play then losing to Canada in a Round of 16 match.

Also this summer, 605 Ninja coaches Josh Miller and Drew Nester were featured on NBC’s "American Ninja Warrior," making it to semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively.

These feats begin in local gyms, including Sanford and Avera wellness centers, Great Life, Crunch Fitness, Fit Body Boot Camp, Anytime Fitness, Koko Fit Club, and the YMCA. Sioux Falls athletes also crowd adventure gyms and trampoline parks, where competitive jump ropers might begin their training.
