The American Legion Post 94 membership meeting June 6 began with a solemn prayer by Chaplain Paul Van Rooy, followed by a moment of silence, to honor the memory of the thousands who served and gave their lives 80 years ago on D-Day, 1944.

Comrade Ernie Brothers, a Post member, who celebrated his 100th  birthday on May 18, was a WWII Army veteran who was in England on that famous day of the large-scale allied attack, which lead to the eventual downfall of Germany and the Axis powers during WWII.

Commander Jack Coyle, presented Brothers with a patriotic-themed quilt donated by the Crown of Life Lutheran Church Quilting Club, an American Legion Department of Arizona, ‘Certificate of Honor’ for his military service and a commemorative American Legion Challenge Coin.

During the meeting, District 11 First Vice Commander Chad Sanders administered the oath of office to the FY 24 - 25 Post Officers. He commended Post 94 on its numerous efforts to continually support and serve veterans and their families living the Northwest Valley area. He addressed the ‘Be the One’ campaign, which is a Legion National platform activated to help reduce the rate of veteran suicides, which remains above the national average.   A national ‘988’ suicide Hotline now exists.  Chad strongly urged anyone to use the Hotline services, if the need arises.
