The Arizona Department of Gaming announced Friday that it has awarded event wagering operator licenses to Sporttrade and Plannatech to conduct sports betting in the Grand Canyon State.

Sporttrade is partnered with Quechan Indian Tribe, while Plannatech is with San Carlos Apache Tribe

Arizona had two open licenses among the 10 allocated to tribal gaming operators. Sporttrade is the operator for the Quechan Indian Tribe of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation. Plannatech is the designee for the San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise.

The Quechan Tribe was formerly partnered with Unibet, which exited the state earlier this year. The San Carlos Apache Tribe was partnered with WynnBET, which has also left various markets across the country.

Sporttrade, a Philadelphia-based sports betting operator, is currently accepting wagers in New Jersey, Colorado, and Iowa. The company first launched in the Hawkeye State in May.

After Sporttrade launched in its home state in 2022, CEO Alex Kane told the Philadelphia Business Journal that the operator planned on taking the platform to new markets across America.

“I’m more convinced than ever that the kind of betting that we are defining or discovering, or trying to attach our brand to, is going to be a larger and larger part of the U.S. ecosystem,” Kane said.

Plannatech is operating as the technology platform for Prime Sportsbook in New Jersey and Ohio

For Sporttrade, iOS is currently available in Colorado, Iowa, and New Jersey. Though, Android is available in New Jersey only. It is reportedly coming to more states this year.

Plannatech, first incorporated in the U.K. in 2015, is operating as the technology platform for Prime Sportsbook in New Jersey and Ohio.

However, the Arizona Department of Gaming did not mention Prime Sportsbook in its press release. The licensing process opened June 7, and the application period was from July 8-19.

Plannatech is one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in Europe. It offers an integral technology solution through its centralized Terminal Management System (TMS).

Moreover, Plannatech expanded its global reach after receiving a Network Services Operator license, granted by Isle of Man. The company utilizes separate ISPs, balanced by a U.S.-based web infrastructure, which is secured by Cloudflare.

Arizona allows up to 20 sportsbooks

According to SportsHandle’s Chris Altruda, it was the first time the state agency conducted the licensing process in about a year. It last concluded with bet365 being awarded an event sports wagering operator license on Aug. 29.

Additionally, the England-based sportsbook launched in Arizona in February. The company has generated nearly $9.3 million in gross sports betting revenue in its first four months.

Per Arizona law, the Grand Canyon State allows up to 20 sportsbooks. Ten of the state’s sports wagering licenses can be affiliated with professional sports teams. The other 10 must be linked to Native American tribes.

Arizona legalized sports betting in April 2021 and launched later that year on Sept. 9. DraftKings and FanDuel are the most profitable sportsbooks in Arizona, controlling about 70% of the market.

BetMGM, partnered with the Arizona Cardinals, is third on the state’s list based on revenue. Caesars Sportsbook, partnered with the Arizona Diamondbacks, is fourth overall.
