According to the Arizona Weatherman, on Friday, 2 Aug 2024, Arizona monsoon thunderstorms will develop in the early afternoon hours in the state's southeastern section and on the Mogollon Rim and move northwestward throughout the day into the early evening hours. Some of these storms may also develop severe weather.

The steering flow, as depicted above, will move the thunderstorms from the southeast toward the northwest over the course of the day. Expect thunderstorms to develop after 1 p.m. and into the early evening hours. The storms will develop on the Mogollon Rim and Southest Arizona. The instability is moderate to high, with potential severe weather, including winds >60 mph, hail less than one inch, dust in prone areas, and 1-2 inch localized flooding. The severe thunderstorms will likely not be widespread but isolated.

The storms will have isolated thunderstorm conditions and will not hit everywhere at once. Instead, they will be a more typical monsoon pattern with the haves and the have-nots. However, the model data does indicate that the thunderstorms will move further north in the state and may be in the vicinity of or over the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and Prescott and southward over Tucson, Sierra Vista, and Safford. The Phoenix Metro does not look like it will get the joy of rain today.
