Monsoon afternoon thunderstorms to impact the Mogollon Rim and Southern Arizona

According to the Arizona Weatherman, on Friday, August 30th, 2024, the Mogollon Rim and Southeastern Arizona will experience isolated monsoon thunderstorms in the afternoon to early evening time frame.

The upper-level pattern shows some speed divergence on the Rim. Combined with surface heating and orographic lifting, expect isolated thunderstorms for Greenlee, Southern Apache, Southern Navajo, Gila, Coconino, Yavapai, and Northern Mohave Counties today after 1 p.m. To the south, isolated thunderstorms around 3 pm and later will also ignite for Santa Cruz, Pima, Cochise, and Graham Counties. The severe possibility looks minimal due to the weak to moderate instability today. The more robust activity looks to be on the Rim today.
