Arizona Weatherman’s 2024 Monsoon forecast verified: Rainfall rates, temperatures confirm prediction

How did the Arizona Monsoon 2024 rainfall rates stack up statewide? Well, that depends on your location. Some locations were above, some were about average, and others were below average. Officially, the monsoon season ends on 30 Sep 2024, but between now and the 30th, the Arizona Weatherman expects little to no rain to hit the state. Therefore, this is his season summary based on the state's National Weather Service (NWS) monsoon data.

For Southern Arizona, Tucson was slightly above average, with 5.8 inches versus the average of 5.49 inches. Willcox and Picacho Peak area followed suit with Tucson. Conversely, Safford was well below average in monsoon rainfall, with .74 inches of rain versus the average of 3.5 inches. Sierra Vista and Ajo were also under the average. In total, for Cochise, Pima, Graham, Pinal Counties, Southern Maricopa, and Eastern Yuma counties, the predominant data indicates slightly above average to average for this area, with a few areas below average.

For Central Arizona, Phoenix was very much under average, with .74 inches compared to the average of 2.33 inches. Every other location in Central Arizona tracked likewise, including Gila Bend, Globe, Apache Junction, Tacna, Quartzsite, Parker, and Yuma, all under the average amount of rainfall for this monsoon season. This lines up with the generalized data for the Central and Northern Maricopa, Northern Pinal, Western Yuma, and Lapaz Counties, as these areas were also predominantly below average.

For Northern Arizona, Flagstaff was below average, with 6.08 inches to the average of 7.36 inches. Additionally, Kingman, Page, Prescott, Show Low, and Winslow were all below average as well. However, with the main cities and towns below average, there were regional areas above average in Central Coconino, Central to Northern Mohave, Central Navajo, and Apache Counties.

Overall, the consensus data indicates an average to below-average rainfall rate for much of the state during the monsoon 2024 season. Additionally, it was hotter than average. This aligns well with my original, accurate Arizona Monson forecast issued back in April 2024. Take a look at that forecast, “Arizona Weatherman’s Summer 2024 Monsoon Forecast for Arizona,” for more details.
