ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – People in Arkadelphia are about to have a main thoroughfare, for some residents, closed for about a year.

According to city officials, Walnut Street at 10th and Highway 67 will be closed beginning on July 29th.

This will affect those living along Walnut Street, and even Wade Street.

However, Arkadelphia City Manager Gary Brinkley said accommodations will be made, such as redirecting traffic and allowing only individuals through to get to their homes. Brinkley said in the end, the road will be better.

“Patience,” Brinkley said. “All growth has pain, and this is a part of it.”

He said the closure is for the safety of the workers, as they put water and sewer lines in and take the bridge out down the road – for expansion.

He said it will also save time and create a wide, long bypass area for vehicles that need it, like log trucks.

Homeowners said that will be directly affected, which makes them frustrated knowing that it will be closed for a year.
