Forest Service Reminds Hunters About Regulations on Public Lands
Modern gun season in Arkansas begins this weekend, and Forest managers are reminding hunters of important safety and regulatory considerations. It is important to always remain alert and aware of surroundings and to practice the “Four Steps for Safety” to improve awareness of natural hazards: Look Up, Look Down, Look Around, Look Below. Dead or dying trees can potentially fall or drop branches without warning, especially in high winds, and forest terrain can be uneven or unstable. Check the weather forecast and assess weather conditions before travel. Hunters should always let someone know planned routes, destinations, and expected return times.
Buying the Big Box Bike
Way back in the early 1970s, I saved up money in a cigar box that I hid on the top shelf of my closet. The money was collected from mowing lawns and a paper route, I had designs on this money. I wanted a new bike. As Christmas was getting close, my parents decided to add to my stash and buy me my first 10-speed. It was a Huffy bought from a local big box store (Toys-R-Us I think) and I would spend the next few years riding it into the ground.
Grand Re-opening of Wishing Spring Trail
Bentonville, AR……. Bentonville Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the grand re-opening of the Wishing Spring Trail. This portion of the Razorback Greenway is a highly traveled thoroughfare for more than 1,000 people per day, connecting residents and visitors from Bentonville to Bella Vista and all points north. The trail was disconnected during the construction of the I-49 Bypass. Recently a bridge was installed, spanning a key section of Town Branch Creek, and reorienting the new hard surface trail in either direction.

2023 Race the Base – Photo Essay
Even without Race the Base, it would have been a perfect day to be in the park. This year it was the perfect celebration of 10 years of running the Base Trail at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The race started 11 years ago (2020 was skipped due to COVID-19) when Lisa Mullis, a local runner and Partners for Pinnacle board member, decided to put on a race for her friends. Growing from there, various sponsors showed up to support the runners including different beer vendors, this year was Flyway Brewing of North Little Rock. The Little Rock Hash House Harriers have shown up for years donating and cooking hot dogs for the finish party. Early in the history of the race, Parkview High School Art Students began creating the unique awards coveted by the runners.

MetroPlan Executive Director to Speak at BACA General Meeting

Bad Jack’s Trail Festival – Photo Essay
Overnight, colors changed. The annual Bad Jack’s Trail Festival was held this past weekend at Blanchard Springs Recreation Area in the Syllamo Ranger District, just outside of Mountain View, Arkansas. This event is presented by the folks at Syllamo Events. The festival began on Friday with a 5K run, followed on Saturday with a choice of a 16-mile or marathon distance trail run through the Syllamo Trails. Back at the start/finish line family and friends enjoyed a beautiful but slightly warm day. Once the runners had returned, everyone enjoyed incredible food, live music, and the Micro Bike races in the parking lot.
