Drop-off event for electronics and hazardous materials happening next weekend

Arlington residents can drop off old electronics, household hazardous materials and small metal items next Saturday at a biannual collection event.

The Environmental Collection and Recycling Event (E-CARE) will take place from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Wakefield High School (1325 S. Dinwiddie Street). Accepted materials include automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent tubes, pesticides, toner cartridges and paint products.

“We encourage you to coordinate with neighbors on combining loads to cut down the number of trips to the E-CARE site,” a press release says. “Vehicles should be packed in reverse order for drop-off: Small metal items first, then electronics and HHMs.”

Business and commercial wastes will not be accepted. The event also does not accept old bicycles, which the county encourages residents to donate to the nonprofit Bikes of the World .
