There will be no weather issues or muddy courses the next couple of days as many area high-school cross country teams return to action.

Some meets were postponed in recent days because of wet weather and grounds.

On Oct. 9 at Nottoway Park in Vienna, the Langley Saxons will run against the Herndon Hornets, Marshall Statesmen and Washington-Liberty Generals in meets beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Langley girls have one of the top teams in the area with runners Hazel Calway, Corinne Jaggard, Lila Pesavento and Madeleine Spanner leading the way.

The Langley girls placed fourth in the season-opening Monroe Parker Invitational, won individually by Herndon High’s Meghan Sullivan.

The McLean Highlanders girls and boys teams race Oct. 9 at Lake Fairfax Park.

The Madison Warhawks and Oakton Cougars are in action Oct. 10 at Burke Lake Park in a meet with multiple teams.

The Madison girls also have a strong unit this season, led by Lydia Mikhin and Keira Van Der Weide. They have been top runners in previous meets this season, including among the top five at the Monroe Parker meet. Caroline Sapperstein is Oakton’s top runner.

The regular seasons conclude this month for public-school teams, with district- and region-championship races Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 at Burke Lake Park, followed by the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state meet on Nov. 11 in Leesburg.
