Stoeser Receives Dance Coach of the Year at Annual Awards Banquet
Amanda Stoeser would be awarded 2023 Dance Coach Of the Year at the 53rd Annual South Dakota High School Coaches Association Awards Banquet on Sunday July 14th in Mitchell. Stoeser has been coaching the Riggs Competitive Dance Team since 2018 and serves at the President of the South Dakota Dance Coaches Association. Stoeser was one of the 19 head coaches to receive the award in their specific sport. Overall there were 30 awards handed out from the state including the Hall of Fame dinner on July 14. Six members were inducted into the Hall of Fame with Charlie Sizer from Miller being a local name with the Class of 2024 Hall of Fame.

LEPC pledges funds for law enforcement training tool
The Local Emergency Planning Committee approved a maximum contribution of $4,000 to help law enforcement purchase a breaching door. The committee unanimously approved covering 50%, with a cap of $4,000, to fund the purchase. The Madison Police Department and Lake County Sheriff's Office would fund another quarter of the purchase each, according to Madison Police Department Officer Heath Abraham.

Good News: Town of Bryant stepping up to improve park
Big things are happening in the small Hamlin County town of Bryant, South Dakota. A campaign to significantly upgrade the town’s park already has raised $200,000 for new playground equipment. The equipment has been ordered and will be installed as soon as it arrives, perhaps within the next month. Much of the installation work will be done by community volunteers.

Fire department project receives more anonymous assistance
A second fire department has received an anonymous $15,000 donation to help pay down a loan for new radios. Fire Chief Terry Reck of the Wentworth Fire Department spoke on the donation during the Local Emergency Planning Committee's July 17 meeting.
After delays, the City of Madison is nearing the end of its 2022 audit
The city of Madison 2022 financial audit is nearing completion. The audit was delayed due to the implementation of new software from Tyler Technologies and staff turnover. Due to the delay, the Department of Legislative Audit may issue a notice of non-compliance. Municipalities in South Dakota are required to complete financial audits within 18 months of the end of the year. While the City of Madison did not make this deadline on June 30, 2024, all information has been provided to the auditor who is expected to complete the audit report shortly. The City of Madison says they have been actively engaged and cooperative with the Department of Legislative Audit throughout this process.
