Events surrounding the Major League All-Star Game start Friday in Arlington with the HBCU Classic at Globe Life Field. Friday is forecast to be "seasonably hot" in Arlington with highs in the upper 90s; the National Weather Service says we could hit 100 Monday and Tuesday as more visitors arrive from other parts of the country.

Major League Baseball says the roof will be closed at Globe Life Field.

"But we're a summer sport," says MLB Global Events Vice President Jeremiah Yolkut. "We are in a lot of stadiums that don't have roofs, so we are very familiar with how to deal with heat."

All-Star Village opens Saturday and runs through Tuesday with 50 attractions covering 650,000 square feet between Choctaw Stadium and Esports Stadium in Arlington. Events will be outside, but Yolkut says the area is set up with shade and water stations.

He says visitors will also have the ability to duck into air conditioned spots of Choctaw or Esports Stadium.

"The plan isn't just a set of protocols, to be clear," he says. "It's more of a practical way the fan can ensure every time they're in a situation where they need to cool down, get a drink of water or get out of the sun, there's a solution for them there," Yolkut says.

MLB expects more than 100,000 people to stop at All-Star Village.

Arlington Police and Fire will also have visible manpower mingling with crowds.

"Heat in Texas, yes, absolutely, that's going to be something we work in conjunction with our fire partners," says Arlington Police Deputy Chief Leo Daniels.

Daniels says officers and firefighters will be walking among crowds, putting them close and able to respond quickly if they see someone struggling with the heat.

"That's part of the conversations we have for every event because we did have a couple events where we did have people passing out, so we've been preparing for it," he says.

MLB says All-Star Village will have maps posted with cooling stations and air conditioned areas.
