The Arlington All-Star Village experience wouldn’t be complete without the blazing Texas heat.

According to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, temperatures in the area reached a high of 99 degrees Sunday afternoon, with the heat index stretching into the hundreds.

The Arlington Fire Department was well-prepared to handle the heat and large attendance this weekend because of previous experience with events in the city like the World Series and the Super Bowl, said Adam Evans, an official with the fire department.

The department and its ambulance service, American Medical Response, both increased staffing ahead of the event, Evans said.

American Medical Response has three tents staffed with EMS throughout the attraction, though Evans said the department hasn’t had to field that many heat-related calls so far.

According to an event map on the Major League Baseball website, there are over 40 cooling & hydration stations available throughout the All-Star Village, as well as fans and misting at regular intervals.

Event attendees can also find air conditioning at several locations, such as within the Village’s merchandise tent and at the Esports Stadium housing the MLB Life exhibit.

Officials with the Weather Service are advising caution in the hot weather: if you’re planning to go outside, wear light clothing, apply sunscreen regularly and drink plenty of fluids.

Much of North Texas remains under a heat advisory until Monday night with temperatures forecast to reach 101 on Monday and Tuesday, the final days of the All-Star Week festivities.
