The 2024 T-Mobile Home Run Derby is scheduled for Monday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The event begins at approximately 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s and BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the 2024 T-Mobile Home Run Derby odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays won last summer at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. He edged Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena for the title, but Vlad won’t be back to defend his crowd.

However, 2-time Derby champ Pete Alonso of the New York Mets is in the field. He posted his 2nd straight title in 2021 at Coors Field after securing the trophy at Progressive Field in Cleveland in 2019 — there was no competition in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

2024 Home Run Derby: What you need to know

    • Alonso is the only previous winner (2 times) in the current field, winning in 2019 in Cleveland, and 2021 in Denver. He is trying to tie Ken Griffey Jr. for 3 career HR Derby victories
    • There are new rules and a new format this season; head-to-head matchups are a thing of the past
    • Semifinal matchups will be determined by total HRs in the 1st round with traditional rankings and matchups determined by those totals
    • A 60-second “swing-off” with no timeouts will only be used in the semifinals and final
    • There’s a 40-pitch limit and 3-minute time limit to each hitter in the 1st 2 rounds
    • In the finals, there is a 2-minute time limit and a 27-pitch limit. Bonus time can still be achieved with longer HRs

2024 Home Run Derby winner picks

BOBBY WITT JR. (+500 at BetMGM Sportsbook) might not be the hometown favorite that Adolis Garcia (+500) is, but Witt is no stranger to Arlington, either. Rangers fans are likely to switch allegiances from Garcia, if he is ousted early, to Witt.

Witt Jr.’s father, Bobby Witt Sr., spent a majority of his 16-year MLB career pitching for the Rangers from 1986-92, and again from 1995-98. Remember when Witt Sr. caught a foul ball in Arlington off the bat of his son? Imagine how special it might be if he were to see his son win the HR Derby in Arlington.

Witt has 16 HRs so far this season, ranking 7th among the 8 sluggers in the field.

    2024 Home Run Derby props

TO MAKE THE SEMIFINALS – ADOLIS GARCIA (-150 at FanDuel Sportsbook) is a strong play to take advantage of his insider knowledge of Globe Life Field. He should finish in the top 4 after the 1st round, advancing to the semifinals.

In addition, TO MAKE THE SEMIFINALS – JOSE RAMIREZ (+190 at FanDuel Sportsbook) is a value play for the chance to nearly double up. Ramirez stunk in his 1st derby appearance in 2022, but it was revealed he was dealing with a thumb injury. As such, he hit right-handed the entire time then. He’ll be hitting left-handed this time around, and that, coupled with the fact the public is a little soured on him, makes Ramirez a strong value play.

You can parlay up to 4 selections for the above plays, too, so if you like Garcia and Ramirez, you can parlay them and up to 2 others. For instance, since we’re picking the Royals slugger, going with TO MAKE THE SEMIFINALS – BOBBY WITT JR. (-162 at FanDuel Sportsbook) is also a strong play.

Parlaying Garcia, Ramirez and Witt Jr. just to make the semifinals fetches a healthy +681 on 3-leg parlay.
