On Monday night, the 2024 Home Run Derby will be taking place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Home of the Texas Rangers, the 2023 World Series champions. The festivities will start at 8:00 p.m. EST with eight participants in a star-studded field. It includes some of the best sluggish in baseball. Competing in the 2024 home run derby are Pete Alonso, Bobby Witt Jr., Gunnar Henderson, Marcell Ozuna, Adolis Garcia, Teoscar Hernandez, Jose Ramirez, and Alec Bohm.

In 2024, the Home Run Derby has some new rules. They are avoiding the bracket format that has resulted in questionable situations in the past. During the 2021 Home Run Derby, Shohei Ohtani had the third most HRs in the first round but did not advance because he lost his first head-to-head matchup. This year, the home run derby is not using a bracket format in the first round. Instead, each player will have their own allotted time in the first round. The semifinals will be decided by the players with the four highest totals in the first round being seeded accordingly. A new twist in this year’s home run derby.

Pete Alonso of the New York Mets is the betting favorite to win the 2024 Home Run Derby

Of the eight contestants competing in the 2024 Home Run Derby, Mets’ Pete Alonso has the lowest odds at +330 to win. Alonso has won the Derby on two previous occasions in 2019 and 2021. He’s trying to tie Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. with his third HR Derby win. Additionally, Yoenis Cespedes and Prince Fielder are the only other players with at least two HR Derby wins in their career. The next closest player is Braves’ outfielder Marcell Ozuna at +425. Ozuna has 26 home runs through the break and a league-leading 77 RBIs This is the 33-year-old’s third all-star selection. Along with Ozuna at +425 odds is Royals standout shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. He had a league-leading 125 hits and had not missed a game yet this season. This is Witt’s first all-star selection of his young career.

Up next at +475 is Oriel’s shortstop Gunnar Henderson. Like Witt Jr., this is also Henderson’s first all-star selection. Henderson has 28 home runs in 95 games this season. Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers is a home-town player competing in this year’s event. Garcia was voted an all-star in 2023 and had 17 home runs in 2024. Teoscar Hernandez, Jose Ramirez, and Alec Bohm are the long shots in this year’s Derby. Each of them is +1000 or higher to win.
