The Guardians sent a large contingent to Arlington, Texas for the All-Star Game , and all five took the field Tuesday night, with three of the Cleveland players making an impact in the American League's 5-3 win.
Third baseman Jose Ramirez , left fielder Steven Kwan , closer Emmanuel Clase , catcher David Fry and first baseman Josh Naylor represented Cleveland on the American League All-Star team. They each have played a big role in the Guardians entering the break with the AL's best record (in addition to being able to select Travis Bazzana with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft ).
Ramirez and Kwan are in the starting lineup as voted upon by baseball fans, with Kwan leading off. Ramirez also took part in Monday's Home Run Derby . Kwan scored a run during the AL's three-run rally in the third, which Fry capped with an RBI single. Clase, the MLB saves leader since 2021, closed out the AL victory.
Here's how the 2024 MLB All-Star Game unfolded through our updates.

Jarren Duran named All-Star Game MVP
Young Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was named the game's MVP following the 5-3 American League win, winning the award named in honor of Red Sox legend Ted Williams.
Duran went 1-for-2, with the hit being his decisive two-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Duran was making his All-Star Game debut and becomes the third Red Sox player to homer in his first All-Star Game, joining J.D. Drew (2008) and David Ortiz (2004).

Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase finished it off for the American League in the ninth inning, striking out Bryan Reynolds to end it. It's Clase's second All-Star save, along with closing out the 2022 AL win.
The AL has beaten the NL 5-3. The AL has now won 10 of the past 11 All-Star Games.

The American League could have had Kirby Yates try to close out the game in front his home crowd in Texas, but instead, he pitched the eighth inning, which has likely set up Emmanuel Clase to pitch the ninth.
So instead of watching their favorite reliever end the All-Star Game, Rangers fans might actually watch the elite closer that Texas gave up for one inning of Corey Kluber close it out.
Seriously, MLB, never again.

It's everything a team doesn't want to see during an All-Star Game, but it appears as though everyone is OK.
Freddie Freeman grounded to a ball to Josh Naylor in the sixth inning. Naylor threw to second to get the runner and then received the throw back to first base, but his foot missed first base. Freeman accidentally stepped on Naylor's ankle and was called out after a review.
Freeman checked on Naylor, who appears to be fine.
The A.L. still leads 5-3.
Naylor then swung at the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning and grounded out.

The AL is on top for the first time tonight.
Jarren Duran absolutely crushed a two-run home run off Hunter Greene, and the AL has taken a 5-3 lead in the fifth.
David Fry followed with a popout to end the inning, making him 1-for-2 with an RBI tonight.

"It's Fry Day" now has an All-Star edition.
David Fry checked into the game as a pinch-hitter to face Logan Webb, and he tied it up, 3-3, with an RBI single to left field to score Juan Soto.
Webb then struck out Jose Ramirez, who is now 0-for-2 tonight, to end the inning.
Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan drew a walk in his second All-Star at-bat, this one against Logan Webb in the third inning. He later came around to score on Juan Soto's two-run double that has cut the National League's lead to 3-2.
Shohei Ohtani just obliterated a three-run home run off of Tanner Houck in the top of the third. Juan Soto, in right field, barely moved.
That was crushed.

Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez hit a flyout on the first pitch he saw from Braves pitcher Max Fried.
Both Kwan and Ramirez swung at the first pitch.
They're awful. That's all that needs to be said. Bring back when players wore their own uniforms, just with a patch or something. Get this off of my TV (and lawn).

Paul Skenes faced Aaron Judge in what might be the most anticipated matchup of the night, but it didn't last long, as the MVP frontrunner quickly grounded into a fielder's choice to end the first inning.
Steven Kwan led off for the AL against Pirates starter Paul Skenes and popped out on a 100-mph fastball to shallow center field.
In the top of the first inning, Orioles ace Corbin Burnes allowed a few baserunners but escaped the inning unscathed.

Country singer Cody Johnson is scheduled to perform the national anthem prior to the game tonight. His performance will follow a rendition by Ingrid Andress that went viral after she sang it at the Home Run Derby on Monday . Tuesday, Andress shared on her social media platforms she was intoxicated and that she is checking into rehab .
