$2M renovation of this Costco in North Texas will take six months to complete

A Costco Wholesale that opened in North Texas more than two decades ago is getting a $2 million renovation.

The membership retailer, which may soon face more competition from a rival warehouse retailer moving into the Metroplex , is doing the renovation work at its store located at 600 W. Arbrook Blvd. in Arlington, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation .

The construction work will include partial demolition of the store’s meat coolers and meat prep areas, as well as demolition of the dairy and bakery coolers and freezers, the rotisserie area, the deli and the refrigerated cases, racks and pallets. The project is expected to be completed in January 2025.

Costco opened this Arlington store in April 2001 near the Arlington Highlands shopping district. It was one of the first Costcos in North Texas after the retailer moved into the market with its southwest Fort Worth store on Overton Ridge Boulevard in September 2000. Until then, Sam’s Club dominated the region’s members-only warehouse shopping business.

In response, Sam’s Club invested in its North Texas stores to make them “more upscale.”

Costco now has 10 locations in North Texas.

More recently, Costco has started building a new store in Weatherford in Parker County, at the northwest corner of Interstate 20 and Center Point Road. The store is expected to welcome customers in early 2025.
