After an uncharacteristically off-key performance of the national anthem at the MLB’s Home Run Derby on Monday night, musician Ingrid Andress announced that she is checking herself into rehab.

“I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night,” Andress wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday morning. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

She also apologized to the MLB and fans in the post, saying she wasn’t herself the night of the derby, which was held in Arlington, Texas.

“I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun,” she signed off.

Spectators took to social media to criticize Andress’ version of the national anthem, some calling it the worst they’d ever heard. The performance was pitchy and strained, and Andress seemed to struggle to hit the notes (watch and listen below).

Despite the negative social media reception, fellow stars took to Andress’ comments to share support.

“I’m so sorry that you’re going through this,” wrote Lucy Hale. “Sending you a lot of my thoughts. Take care of you & you’re going to come out of this so much stronger.”

“It will be ok!” shared Kristin Chenoweth. “You are doing what you need to do. A proud moment.”

The performance was compared to Fergie’s infamous national anthem at the 2020 NBA All-Star game, which sparked national outrage. Some also likened it to fellow country star Elle King’s drunken Dolly Parton birthday tribute earlier this year.

Andress rose to fame in 2019 when her single, “More Hearts Than Mine,” peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track was nominated for Best Country Song at the 2021 Grammys and Song of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards. She’s been nominated for three other Grammy awards, including Best New Artist.
