You can count Dan Patrick as one of the 2024 MLB All-Star Game's many fans. But a fan of this year's uniform scheme? Not so much — although he does make a good argument against them.
"I just think you have to have more personal branding sometimes, with Major League Baseball," Patrick said on his podcast on Wednesday.
Beginning in 2021, MLB took a different approach to the Midsummer Classic, putting players in American League and National League jerseys instead of having players wear their regular team uniforms. The decision has drawn criticism across the board, and the veteran sportscaster gave his two cents.
"They tried too hard," Patrick said. "I felt bad for some of those guys."
Lucky for Patrick and many baseball fans, a revert back to the old jersey scheme may already be in the works.
MLB commissioner Rob Mandred told the media on Tuesday, including The Dallas Morning News , that he is "aware of the sentiment" and that "there will be conversations" about having players wear their individual team's uniforms again.
Patrick did give props to the game itself, which featured plenty of action.
The National League made things interesting in the third inning when Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run home run. The American League tied things up 3-3 in the bottom of the inning before Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran hit a game-winning two-run homer in the fifth. Duran was named the All-Star Game MVP .
