Leechburg Area officials plan lawsuit against Westmoreland County over tax assessments
Leechburg Area School Board members say they intend to file a lawsuit against Westmoreland County and possibly one against the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The lawsuits would be aimed at bringing about a solution to demands from West Leechburg residents to fix what they say is an inequity in the district’s real estate taxes.
Explosion At CDC Bruceton Research Center
The explosion happened at the Burceton Research Center located at 649 Cochran Mill Road in Jefferson Hills around 12:48 p.m. on Friday, a CDC official told us. The CDC shares the site with two other federal agencies, and an outside vendor was "loading hazardous waste material into a truck for disposal was injured and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance," the spokesperson said noting that, "No federal staff were involved in the incident and there was no damage to the property."

Salmonbellies Leapfrog Into Second Place
The New Westminster Salmonbellies were able to leapfrog over two other teams into second place with a convincing 17-4 win over the Coquitlam Adanacs on Thursday night. The Salmonbellies jumped over the Langley Thunder and Maple Ridge Burrards for second place in the tight WLA playoff race. Coquitlam’s playoff chances are fading quickly. They drop to 6-10-1 with one game left in the regular season. They would have to win against the Burnaby Lakers on Saturday night and have either Maple Ridge lose their last three and/or Langley lose their last two.
