Fireworks Fatal Incident, July 4th Death
Such incidents involving fireworks are quite common in Illinois. In the previous year, as per the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office, there were 108 injuries due to fireworks mishaps. The victims included a suburban man almost dying because he looked into an inactive firework tube and another man in his early thirties who died near Rockford while igniting fireworks. A young suburban man lost an eye and sustained severe facial injuries due to firework accidents. Also, in 2017, a man from Chicago died while putting together a July Fourth children’s firework show.

(The Center Square) – Illinois' in-state average tuition over the last 15 years has jumped by 49%, leaving the state with the third-highest costs in the country and many students are either leaving home to seek further education or taking on more debt to make it happen in the Land of Lincoln. A new Illinois Policy Institute survey finds average in-state costs at the state’s 12 public universities now stands at nearly $15,000, or more than $5,000 higher than the national average. ...
Illinois Residents Getting Sick Because of a Dangerous Parasite
If you've been feeling sick over the past couple of months, it may be due to a parasite that typically causes more illnesses in the summer months. According to the Centers for Disease Control, they're investigating an "outbreak linked to a food source" which causes a diarrheal illness reportedly due to a parasite called Cyclospora cayetanensis, or cyclosporiasis.

Mayor pushing back on property tax hikes A group of northern Illinois mayors are pushing back after resident’s property tax bills skyrocketed. Harvey Mayor Christopher Clark is included and is pursuing efforts to address the surging property tax bills. Clark said Harvey was one of 15 south suburban communities that saw increases of 30% or more in property taxes.
