Town of Shenandoah residents share concerns about town council conduct
SHENANDOAH, Va. (WHSV) - Some residents of the Town of Shenandoah are disappointed about how they’ve been treated at town council meetings. Now, they’re speaking out. Some residents are especially concerned about the conduct of council members, who allegedly raised their voices at attendees during Tuesday’s meeting, telling them to ‘shut up’ and ‘shut their mouths.’ Resident Melissa Smith said when attendees were allowed to speak at the end of the meeting, council members frequently interrupted them before their allotted time was up.

New report breaks down how much Virginia’s school districts spend per student
NORFOLK, Va. — Data collected by The Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) dissects just how much money Virginia’s school districts are investing into each student. Combining numbers from fiscal year 2023 spending reports from each locality and enrollment figures from the Virginia Department of Education, the report ranks each district based on how much it spent on teaching per student.
Virginia plant linked to deadly outbreak broke food safety rules dozens of times, records show
Between Aug. 1, 2023, and Aug. 2, 2024, inspectors found “heavy discolored meat buildup" and “meat overspray on walls and large pieces of meat on the floor.” They also documented flies “going in and out” of pickle vats and “black patches of mold” on a ceiling. One inspector detailed blood puddled on the floor and “a rancid smell in the cooler.” Plant staff were repeatedly notified that they had failed to meet requirements, the documents showed.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance with locating a runaway juvenile. According to a release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Jathan Johnson was last seen on Thursday, Aug. 29, at his Staunton residence, but was reported Friday by a family member.
