JMU launches new campus safety app
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - As the school year begins, James Madison University has launched a new app to improve campus safety. The university said the ‘JMU Shield’ app is free, and it will replace its LiveSafe app. JMU Shield has mobile reporting features, an alert system and several public safety resources.

Two days before Hayfield Secondary School’s season opener against West Springfield High School, Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid stood in Hayfield’s auditorium at a fiery community meeting in Alexandria. Flanked by her top legal and communications deputies in the front row, Reid told about 150 parents, staff, and community members that an internal investigation had cleared the school’s new football coach, Darryl Overton, and school district administrators of any wrongdoing regarding allegations of financial impropriety, retaliation, and illegal recruiting of more than 30 football players to the school.
