The congregation at Central City's St. James Church celebrated 165 years of worshipping together. This is a great program that will teach you all about Golden and show you how to get involved in the community. Over the course of nine months, they have sessions on government, history, culture, city finance, volunteering, and much more. They’re accepting applications now for the class that starts this fall. The class is free. They’ve offered this class every year (except 2020--the plague year) since 1984, and the alumni list is a Who’s Who of Who’s Making Golden Great.

The July 21, 1921 Colorado Transcript described a house fire where a brave young girl saved her two baby brothers. On the previous Tuesday afternoon, Mr. and Mr. F.W. Briggs went out to pick berries, leaving their 11 year old daughter Leslie to watch her brothers. While they were gone, the roof of the kitchen shed caught fire. Leslie quickly carried the babies to the farthest corner of the yard, then tried to douse the flames by throwing water at the roof. Unable to extinguish the fire, she ran to the nearest telephone to call the fire department, then ran back to the house and began dragging out the family’s possessions.

Resident fatally shoots home intruder near University of Denver
A startled resident shot and killed a man who was intruding in their apartment early Sunday morning, according to the Denver Police Department. The shooting happened near the 2300 block of east Evans Avenue in south Denver, at the One Observatory Park apartment complex near the University of Denver. An initial call of a shooting came in around 1 a.m., according to a police department spokesperson. Police officials said a "surprised" resident shot the intruder inside their home. The man who intruded on the home was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police officials added the resident who shot the man is cooperating during the active investigation.

The 1.5-mile, gravel hiking trail located one block east of 6th Avenue and 19th Street in Golden, winds between vertical walls of sandstone and into reclaimed clay pits. A professional or knowledgeable amateur geologist will lead the tour and highlight the many viewable dinosaur tracks, fossils, and impressions. Participants are responsible for their own transportation. This tour is designed for participants ages 16 and older.

Colorado man accused of breaking into apartment mailboxes in three cities
A man who forged keys out of silverware in order to steal mail from apartment mailboxes has been indicted on federal fraud charges.Adam Christopher Turner, 40, was arrested in May and indicted late last month by a federal grand jury. The Colorado Springs resident is accused of using his fake keys to access "cluster boxes" at apartment buildings in three cities. His break-ins have been traced back to February 2023, according to details in his indictment.Turner was first arrested November 12, 2023 by Lone Tree PD after he used stolen credit cards at several businesses. Denver Man Charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder in Assault on Elderly Mother
A Denver man has been taken into custody for the alleged assault on his mother, which has since escalated to a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
