November 5 election to effect more change to Ascension’s political landscape
Three weeks from today candidates for November 5 elections will begin qualifying (July 17-19). In addition to the turnout inducing U.S. Presidential/Congressional elections, the local ballot will include two vacant District Court judgeships along with municipal elections in two of Ascension’s three municipalities. Uncertainty abounds, especially in the City of Gonzales where more than half of the incumbency will not seek reelection to their currently occupied positions.

Guilty Pleas for the Week of June 17-21
During the week of June 17 – June 21, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court-Ascension Parish:. Jaris Howard, 1103 Maginnis St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
