Gonzales supermarket honors life of employee who was killed
GONZALES — The Ascension Parish community gathered to celebrate the life of head cook Brenda Morris at Lamendola's Supermarket after her tragic death last month. Morris was shot and killed in June. Her husband, Sean, was arrested for second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons and eight counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The 23rd Judicial District Court announced the following guilty pleas entered during the week of June 24-28, 2024:. 1. Beau Babin, St. Amant, LA, age 30, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts) and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisianan Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
AP Library receives $5,000 donation from Nutrien
Three Ascension Parish residents will soon have the opportunity to complete their high school education, thanks to a generous $5,000 donation from Nutrien to Ascension Parish Library (APL). The gift will fund three scholarships for residents aged 21 and older to attend Excel Adult High School, an accredited online program offered by APL. The donation will also cover the cost of a laptop for one student who may not have a way to access their classes. Additionally, the remaining money will be used to expand the library’s popular Seed Library, a collection of complimentary seeds for library cardholders to start a small backyard garden, to the Donaldsonville branch, scheduled to reopen in the coming months.
