Midwest Center for AIDS Research to Open in September
The St. Louis-based center will serve as a base where researchers and public health experts can fight the HIV epidemic together. A new HIV research center is coming to St. Louis, thanks to a collaboration between researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Saint Louis University. The Midwest Developmental Center for AIDS Research will open in September with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), making it the 20th Center for AIDS Research site in the United States, according to a Eureka Alert! news release published last week.
Missouri Minute: Kansas City, Rolla miss Tech Hub funding; St. Louis utility rates may rise
Last fall, the federal government designated regions centered around Rolla and Kansas City as among 31 "Tech Hubs” across the country. The hubs then competed for federal funding to complete industry-specific projects. Marcellus Williams, MO man on death row, will get to present DNA evidence, argue innocence
A Missouri man scheduled to be executed in September will get a chance to present a court with DNA evidence he believes will exonerate him. Marcellus Williams will get a hearing on Aug. 21, at the request of St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to vacate the conviction after reviewing the case and discovering “clear and convincing evidence” that Williams is innocent.
