Minnesota Pulls Plug on Troubled Nursing Home, 120 Jobs Eliminated

A nursing home in Red Wing that has grappled with chronic understaffing, financial woes, and allegations of neglect is set to permanently close its doors, resulting in roughly 120 employees losing their jobs.

State regulators confirmed Wednesday that Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will shutter in the coming months after the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) assumed emergency management of the facility late last year due to "significant financial and structural deficiencies."

The 121-bed nursing home has seen its population dwindle to just 51 residents as of this week. According to a WARN notice filed with the
Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development
, around 120 staff members are expected to be laid off on or around July 22 as part of the closure process.

However, MDH emphasized that the facility will not close until every remaining resident has been safely transferred to a new care location that meets regulations and families' wishes.
