Alarming Health Statistics: San Antonio Earns Unwanted Title as Most Obese City

According to the latest study, everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently, none are bigger than people in San Antonio.

Insider Monkey analyzed data from the CDC on Body Mass Index (BMI) across all cities, with more than one million people in the United States. BMI is calculated using a person's weight and height- it is your weight divided by your height squared.

According to the CDC, a person should have a BMI between 18.5 to 24.9.

Unfortunately, the study found the highest BMI in the nation was in San Antonio, where the average BMI was 40.2,

Over 65% of all adults in Bexar County are considered overweight or obese, with nearly a third of all children in Texas being overweight.

Fort Worth was ranked 10th most obese, while Houston ranked 25th.

The Barkley comment

One person who won't be surprised by the study is former NBA star Charles Barkley, who has a long-running, gag about San Antonio.

"I mean, they won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore when I’m always talking about their big ole women down in San Antonio. They’re like, ‘Charles, we got one lady [who] wrote an article.’ “I’m like, ‘First of all, I didn’t call anybody personally fat in San Antonio; I was just joking around. … We’ve been having fun with this for probably 10–15 years. We go to San Antonio; the people are having a blast with it. The people in San Antonio had T-shirts made up."

Even when the San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembenyama, Barkley couldn't resist a jab at the people in San Antonio.

"I'll tell you what, Victor Wembanyama will be great in San Antonio. If he goes to San Antonio, he'll definitely gain some weight. He won't have to worry about being skinny down there. He won't have to worry about being skinny in San Antonio. Hey, Victor, go to San Antonio, they'll put some weight on you."
