70-Year Retail Legacy Ends: Massachusetts Shoppers Grab Final Bargains

The retail apocalypse continues to claim victims, with East Coast staple Bob's Stores announcing the closure of 21 locations amid bankruptcy proceedings. The company, known for its casual wear and footwear, is holding liquidation sales with discounts up to 90% off, drawing bargain hunters to its six Massachusetts stores.

Dave Barton, company president, reflected on Bob's nearly seven-decade legacy, stating, "Bob's has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives."

This closure is part of a broader trend in the retail sector, with several well-known chains facing similar fates. Big Lots recently filed for bankruptcy, planning to close 545 stores, while LL Flooring, reverting to its Lumber Liquidators moniker, is shuttering about half of its 400 locations.

The apparel industry has been hit particularly hard, with Express closing approximately 100 stores and Rue21 announcing the closure of all its locations following bankruptcy filings.
