Major Layoffs Announced in Mississippi as Popular Chain Cuts Staff

New Round of Corporate Layoffs Shakes Mississippi Employees

Panera Bread is facing another round of corporate layoffs, just ten months after cutting 17% of its corporate workforce. The restructuring impacts Panera’s corporate support teams in Mississippi.

The memo outlined the company's need to "further align" its support structure with its evolving strategy. “We must change how we operate to remove silos and simplify leadership reporting lines to make faster decisions and drive more consistent execution,” an internal memo said. It also emphasized that the changes aim to bring corporate teams closer to the cafes and empower general managers, who are considered the core of the company’s culture.

The layoffs will not affect franchisees or store-level staff but will primarily hit corporate-level workers. Panera’s organizational realignment is part of a broader effort to streamline operations.

In addition to the Mississippi layoffs, Panera filed a WARN Act notice in Georgia, announcing the closure of its fresh dough manufacturing facility in Norcross. The closure, set for November, will affect 86 employees. This will be the fifth such facility to close this year, with others shutting down in Houston, Chandler (AZ), Seattle, and Denver.
