Job Cuts Sweep Across Texas: WARN Notices Reveal Widespread Layoffs

The layoffs continue this week in Texas.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, employers with more than 100 full-time workers must provide 60 days' notice before laying off 50 or more employees at a single site.

This week, several WARN notices have been filed with the Texas Workforce Commission advising of mass layoffs to be made.

• Shell Energy is laying off 103 staff in Houston on December 13.
• Intel is laying off 251 staff in Austin on November 15.
• National Fire and Safety is laying off 99 staff in Dallas on December 16.

Recent Texas layoffs

There has been a spate of layoff notices in recent weeks.

• MII Technologies advised that 57 staff in San Antonio will be laid off on October 31.
• Cygnus Home Services is laying off staff in Texas in November
• Southwestern Health Resources laid off 129 people in Farmers Branch
• MTC Medical LLC laid off 218 staff at the end of September.
• Equus Workforce Solutions lodged multiple WARN notices stating that staff would be laid off across multiple locations. In total, staff across ten locations will be laid off. These include Burnet, Johnson City, Lockhart, San Marcos, Bastrop, Giddings, Round Rock, and Llano.
• Texas Children’s Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in the nation, laid off 5% of its workforce amid financial challenges.
• Dell Technologies, the Texas-based tech giant, announced a new wave of layoffs and restructuring focused on artificial intelligence.
