Second victim in New Boston shooting succumbs to injuries; another murder charge pending against suspect
NEW BOSTON, Texas (KSLA) - The second victim of an East Texas shooting is now dead less than two weeks after sustaining life-threatening injuries. On Saturday, July 6, two people were shot in the 300 block of North Lindsey Street in New Boston around 5:42 p.m. Both suffered multiple gunshots wounds. One victim died at the scene. The other victim, later identified as 19-year-old Nicholas Webster, was taken to an area hospital.
Man on the run for 30+ years finally sentenced for shooting in Ringgold
CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. (KSLA) - A Bienville Parish man who was on the run for more than 30 years after shooting someone in Ringgold has now been sentenced. Greg Lawson, who is now 64-years-old, was caught in Mexico by the FBI in September of 2023 after being on the run for 32 years. Back in 1991, Lawson shot Seth Garlington, who was 19 at the time, in Ringgold in an incident that started as a fist fight.

Hooks First Methodist Church has closed following a decision made by its governing body that would allow gay clergy and gay marriages in the organization. Hooks First Methodist Church sent a letter to the Texarkana Gazette stating it closed its doors instead of accepting rule changes the United Methodist Church voted on May 1. The decision allows gay clergy members to host gay weddings. The change passed 692-51 among the church’s delegation.
