GREENSBORO — This year’s NCGOP Convention started on Thursday, May 23 in Greensboro and concluded on Sunday, May 26. Local Ashe County GOP residents attended as delegates from the Ashe County Republican Party.

The attending delegates from Ashe County reported that the convention was a "lively and energetic event" that opened on Thursday night with Kash Patel, Former Chief of Staff to the Department of Defense & Deputy Director of National Intelligence, speaking to the crowd.

On Friday night, they were delighted as Eric and Laura Trump addressed the audience during the Grand Old Party Dinner. They also heard from President Donald J. Trump from Eric Trump's cell phone.

Possible candidates for Trump's running mates spoke including the well-known Vivek Ramaswamy and the well-received North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.

The Legislative Breakfast included Chief Justice Paul Newby followed by speeches from numerous GOP judicial candidates including Judge Jefferson Griffin - candidate for the NC Supreme Court, Judge Valerie Zachary - candidate for the NC Court of Appeals, Judge Chris Freeman - candidate for the NC Court of Appeals, and Judge Tom Murray - candidate for NC Court of Appeals. Dan Bishop - candidate for NC Attorney General also gave an inspiring speech.

Current NC 2024 candidates spoke at the First in Freedom Lunch on Saturday. In addition, the Ashe delegates reported that they were honored to have Michael Whatley, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and keynote speaker Vivek Ramaswamy at the First in Freedom Lunch on Saturday.

Saturday night featured North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and the Candidate for NC Governor, NC Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. Both provided motivating speeches to the delegates.

At the Sunday morning Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by the North Carolina Faith and Freedom Coalition, Radio/TV Host Todd Starnes gave a riveting talk to the attendees.

After a full, invigorating, and motivational four days, the convention closed as the attending delegates returned to their own counties ready to inform their citizens and foster even greater involvement at the grassroots level. They are building a movement of citizen voters who commit to voting, to vote with knowledge, and remain engaged in monitoring their elected officials and giving them feedback while requiring them to listen to their constituents and obey their oath of office to “defend and protect” our Constitution. As Article VI of our Constitution states, “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution."

The 2024 National GOP will be held in Milwaukee on July 15. It is sure to be an even more exciting and informative event.
