JEFFERSON — Welfare checks are being conducted by the Ashe County Sheriff's office in collaboration with other emergency services. Residents and community members can call the non-emergency number (336-846-5600) if a welfare check is warranted.

The Highest priority is given to calls in which the WC involves someone who is elderly, has a medical condition, or is located in a hard to reach area. To receive an update regarding the WC, a callback number must be provided.

Individual and small group donations can be delivered Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the cafeteria at Family Central located on 626 Ashe Central School Rd in Jefferson. Larger group donations can be coordinated with the Emergency Operations Center at 336-846-5522.

The Ashe County High School is currently functioning as a shelter. Those who have been displaced or are without power are encouraged to utilize this resource.
