    Dr. Aviva Chomsky to present talk on ‘Central America's Forgotten History’ Oct. 28

    BOONE — Appalachian State University's Department of History invites the public to attend a free lecture by Dr. Aviva Chomsky on Monday, Oct. 28, from 7-9 p.m. in Room 116 of Anne Belk Hall, located at 224 Joyce Lawrence Lane in Boone. She will present "Central America’s Forgotten History: Revolution, Violence and the Roots of Migration."

    Book sales and signings of “Central America’s Forgotten History: Revolution, Violence and the Roots of Migration” will follow the lecture.

    Chomsky is professor of history and coordinator of Latin American studies at Salem State University. She has published widely on labor history, immigration and undocumentedness, Central America, Cuba and Colombia. According to Chomsky, her talk will address the roots of poverty, violence and corruption in Central America in centuries of conquest, foreign domination and extractive economic projects.

    The lecture is organized by App State's Department of History and co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Department of Anthropology and global studies program in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.
