North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper only has a few months left of being governor of the state, but it doesn't mean he's out of the political arena .

Just a few short weeks ago when Vice President Kamala Harris started her campaign for the White House and began searching for a running mate, Cooper's name was on the tip of many tongues as a possible candidate for the job. He took his name out of the pool saying he didn't think it was the right time for him or the state. But he took a few minutes at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to tell those watching about his friend, Kamala.

"All week, you’ve heard stories about my friend, Kamala. I want to take you behind the scenes on one of them," Cooper said before sharing how he first met the now presidential nominee during the 2011 housing crisis when he and Harris were attorney generals on opposite coasts.

He remembered watching her fight for families in California and getting banks to go from a $4 billion settlement to a $20 billion settlement for families in California.

"That was the first time I saw Kamala in action," Cooper said. "And what I saw was a leader who does exactly what she says she’s going to do."

Cooper continued to speak of his long-time friend ahead of her acceptance speech and encouraged voters to cast their ballot for Harris on Nov. 5.

"Even if you don't agree with her on everything, Kamala will fight for you," he said. "Kamala will fight for you and when she fights, we win."

Roy did a great job and he's in line for a well deserved cabinet position. He'll do a great job there just as he did as our governor. He's smart, competent and reasoned. Awesome job!
