Free Wildlife Family Program at Lanier Library

TRYON—Every year, Lanier Library invites the community to a free family summer event. This year, on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m., education specialists from the Western North Carolina Nature Center will be Live@Lanier with some of their animal friends, nature exhibits, and biofacts to touch, such as furs and feathers.

How is otter fur different than bear fur? Do owls fly silently at night because of something in the wings? Why do you feel as you do about snakes in your yard? Can you imagine your yard from a frog’s perspective? Such questions will be answered by the specialists, and they will also answer more from the participating audience.

The Nature Center in Asheville is home to sixty species of wild and domestic animals and hundreds of species of plants. Children and adults have opportunities to learn and better understand and appreciate red wolves, foxes, and other native wildlife and habitats of the unique Southern Appalachian bioregion, including their own backyards. The program is the latest in Lanier’s Felburn Nature and Wildlife Collection Series and is free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of the Kirby Endowment Fund at PCCF.
