    Suspect arrested after cyclist killed in hit-and-run crash in Asheville

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – A man has been arrested after a cyclist was killed in a crash Thursday morning in the east area of Asheville.

    The Asheville Police Department identified 26-year-old Alexander Rozos as the bicyclist in the fatal collision before noon near the 300 block of Swannanoa River Road.

    Officers said Rozos was traveling west when he was hit by a white box truck that was traveling in the same lane going in the same direction. Rozos died at the scene.

    According to police, the driver fled the scene before authorities arrived. The vehicle and driver were located later that afternoon.

    Officers identified the driver as 47-year-old Mauricio Roberto Melgar Delgado. He was charged with hit & run causing serious injury/death.

    Delgado was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.

    The crash remains under investigation by the Asheville Police Department.
