    Dr. Margaret Noel, founder of MemoryCare, honored with NC Order of the Long Leaf Pine

    ASHEVILLE - Dr. Margaret A. (Peggy) Noel was recently awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina's highest honors, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her community and exemplary service within the state.

    Dr. Noel, a highly esteemed Geriatric Specialist with over 35 years of dedicated service, has been a cornerstone of health care in North Carolina. A graduate of Davidson College and UNC School of Medicine, she completed her residency and fellowship in geriatrics at Wake Forest University, achieving Board Certification in Internal Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. She lives in Asheville.

    Beyond her clinical achievements, Dr. Noel has been actively involved in medical education, mentoring countless students and professionals in the field of geriatrics. She has held influential positions with the American Medical Directors Association and the Alzheimer's Association, further amplifying her impact on the health care landscape.

    Throughout her career, she has spearheaded pioneering initiatives and assumed leadership roles. In 2000, she founded MemoryCare in Asheville, an innovative organization that has transformed dementia care in the region. MemoryCare offers comprehensive support to patients that includes tailored family caregiver education, training and support, while also providing regional education to equip caregivers of persons living with dementia to gain expertise and confidence to help their loved ones through a difficult disease that can last many years.

    "I'm grateful for 35 years of a rewarding professional career and to be blessed with work that has so much meaning and purpose," said Dr. Noel. "This recognition reflects the collective effort of my support system — including my family, the exceptional staff at MemoryCare, our devoted Board of Directors, and the generous community we serve. Together, we work to make a meaningful difference in our region."

    The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, directed by the Governor of North Carolina, celebrates individuals like Dr. Noel who embody extraordinary commitment and service to the state. Dr. Noel's legacy of compassionate care and leadership continues to inspire and uplift communities across North Carolina.
