Alabama’s newest Safe Haven Baby Box now in Jasper
JASPER, Ala. (WBRC) - A new Safe Haven Baby Box in Jasper is the seventh one in Alabama. It’s located at Jasper’s Fire Station on 18th Street. The baby box is a way for a mother who is in crisis to safely and privately surrender their newborn in the box. Once inside the box, a silent alarm is triggered. Firefighters will then rush the baby to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

DEI Offices Close At Auburn University, Mizzou, Iowa State And The University Of Alabama
These closures are occurring amidst a nationwide backlash to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and in accordance with new state laws. On Monday, Auburn University issued a statement that the school would be dissolving its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office in order to remain in compliance with the new state law. The following day, the University of Missouri at Columbia (Mizzou) dissolved its DEI Division. The week before, three campuses in the University of Alabama (UA) System, The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, announced the closure of their DEI offices. Similarly, Iowa State University (ISU) officially shuttered its DEI office on July 22.
