🏈 HutchCC home game themes announced
The Blue Dragon Athletic Department has released its home game themes for the 2024 Blue Dragon football season. Blue Dragon football, the 2020/21 NJCAA Division I national champion, is set to host six home games this fall, including a 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 kickoff against the 2021 NJCAA national champion New Mexico Military Institute.
WRHS Young Life Color Chaos
Last Friday, August 16th the Washburn Rural Young Life Club held their annual color chaos event. During this event, students play mini-games such as egg toss, relays, and other water games. Following those games students then gather around with water paint and colored powder, where they then throw the paint/powder all over each other.
Independence to Install New Lights at Riverside Park Tennis Courts
There's good news for Independence tennis players who like to play under the lights. For more than a year, twelve of the forty lights at the Riverside Park tennis courts have not been working. Independence resident Ken Brown has requested that the city repair the lights to make it possible for the courts to be used at night. Assistant City Manager Dave Cowan says the city has two options.

Ilene, now 27, was at work on Nov. 17, 2020 when she received a call from the Lawrence Police Department. Her toddler, Carter Louis Tolbert, had an apparent accident and was not responsive.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - One woman was taken to a nearby hospital after another driver caused a three-car crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol indicates that just after 7:50 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, emergency crews were called to the area of southbound I-635 and Shawnee Dr., southeast of Turner, with reports of a 3-vehicle collision.

St. George, Kan. (WIBW) - Rock Creek Head Coach Shane Sieben said this year’s Mustangs team reminds him of the team he had two years ago. That team went 9-2. “We’ve got a group that’s been there and done that, they’ve been thrown in the fire before,” Sieben said. “It reminds me a lot of the group we had two years ago. Those guys went through the wringer two years before and were forced into action at a young age, and by the time they were seniors, they were ready to lead and have fantastic senior seasons,” Sieben said.
More repairs likely in Madison after water main break Thursday night
Additional repairs are likely coming Friday after a water main break affected part of downtown Madison on Friday evening. A water main break developed outside First Christian Church at 316 Main. Initial work continued into the early-morning hours. The city hasn’t decided whether it will have to shut off nearby water service as part of upcoming work.

City of Wichita says water restrictions working, shares numbers
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - After more than two weeks of restrictions, the City of Wichita offered further insight into how much water is being saved. When the City of Wichita put water restrictions in place on Aug. 5, they said the goal was to reduce water usage by 10%. On Thursday, the city announced that we’re meeting that goal. The conservation effort comes with the depth of Cheney Lake, a main water source for Wichita, dropping amid continuing drought.
