Nebraska’s Ron Brown to become on-field assistant coach
The Nebraska Cornhuskers announced another change to their coaching staff on Wednesday afternoon. Director of Player Support and Outreach Ron Brown will now coach fullbacks and returners. A recent change to NCAA rules no longer limits the number of coaches who can be employed in an on-field role. Previously, only the head coach and ten assistants were allowed to interact with student-athletes in ‘technical or tactical instruction.’ “The Division I Council on Tuesday approved a rule change… to permit any staff member to provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes… during practice and competition.” Brown has a long association with Nebraska football, having coached for the Huskers for 24 years. He served as an assistant from 1987-2003 and again from 2008-14. The Husker coach has coached wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs during his time at Nebraska. He will transition away from his role as Nebraska’s director of player support and outreach into his new on-field role.
