Anyone who visits my home is instantly greeted by my porch goose . This quirky accessory is pure kitsch, churning up memories from the 1980s and ’90s when they gained popularity with a slew of custom outfits. (And they’re not the only nostalgic product making a comeback. Hello, Lenox Spice Village !)
While my Gaggleville goose is up all year long, I’m most excited to decorate her for the holidays. After all, there are so many fun costumes to choose from. Here’s everything you need to know about getting your wings, err, hands on a Christmas porch goose in 2024.
What is a holiday porch goose?
First things first: A porch goose is a plastic, goose-shaped yard decoration that can sit in your garden or on your porch. There’s both a standard-size 23-inch goose and a new 17-inch baby goose made by the brand Gaggleville.
While they look adorable on their own, the real fun comes from the range of outfits you can purchase for different seasons and themes. For Christmas, there are a bevy of fun costumes for your gaggle to choose from. Think Santa and Mrs. Claus, a gingerbread man and even a penguin.
I got my large goose in May 2023, and I was really impressed by its size. I filled the base with sand and used the black stopper at the bottom to keep it in place. My porch goose primarily resides in my front entryway, and so far, I’ve noticed no leaks. The outfits are also high-quality and made of colorful felt and adorable details. Many options also include a headpiece or hat for a final touch.
Keep in mind that while your porch goose is intended for outdoor use, the outfits should remain covered. They are not waterproof and will deteriorate if exposed to rain or snow.
