Ohio company ordered to end sale of products using unregistered pesticide: EPA

( WJET/WFXP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stopped the sale and distribution of two products from an Ohio-based company due to federal violations.

According to a release, the EPA issued an order to Excell Air Filters, located in Ashland, Ohio, to immediately stop the sale and distribution of two products, “Antimicrobial Filter” and “Allergen Filter.”

These products were reportedly using unregistered pesticides, which is a violation of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

Under FIFRA, pesticides are required for evaluation through EPA’s registration process to check that the products perform as intended.

The EPA will not register a pesticide until it is confirmed it does not pose an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment when used.

Registered products have EPA-approved labeling that details important information on safety and application. Unregistered products have not been evaluated and may not function as advertised or could mislead consumers.
