    The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of John C. Chapple as postmaster of the City of Ashland, the term will last four years.

    The W. E. Ringham home and the Webben’s Drug Store sustained slight damage when struck by lightning.

    Dorothy Ziokowski is named the Ashland Centennial Queen.

    Our area hit by an army of tent worms. The South Shore train was delayed for 2 hours because of not being able to get traction on the rails at Poplar.

    1974

    State Sen. Dan Theno, representing the Ashland area, announced the Wisconsin Senate had passed a bill, 26-4m which he had sponsored, calling for a freeze on property taxes for senior citizens.
